Motriz documentation

What Motriz is, how the four destinations fit together, and where to begin.

Motriz is a product-driven AI workspace with a persistent co-founder and integrated building. It keeps product judgment, evidence, decisions, and the software work that follows them together: you think a direction through with a co-founder that stays with the product, record every decision at a checkpoint, and turn decisions into real changes with a multi-provider coding harness. The harness is a complete coding workspace on its own — you can bring in a repository, run agents and flows, and review the results without ever engaging the product guidance. Guidance is strictly opt-in.

One product, four destinations

Everything you add to Motriz opens as a product. Each product offers up to four destinations in the sidebar, always in the same locked order: Dashboard · Journey · Co-founder · Build. Which rows appear follows what the product is. Dashboard is always present. Journey and Co-founder appear on products on the product journey, at any stage. Build appears wherever there is something to build — on repository products, and on any journey product that is building or has a repository connected; the journey is never a toll on building. Core concepts covers the full model.

Two doors in

Adding a product starts from one chooser — titled "Add a product." with the line "Start from wherever the product actually is." — offering two doors:

  • "Start from an idea or product question" creates a journey product with one empty co-founder conversation. Creating it never sends a message or starts a model run — "Your co-founder starts only when you begin the conversation."
  • "Continue from a repository" brings existing code into the journey from the product's actual state. The repository stays where it is — files never move — and Motriz analyzes it in the background while normal work stays available.

Guidance stays opt-in after the door, too. The co-founder speaks only when you open the conversation, every stage transition is a decision you record at a checkpoint — your call, always — and Build keeps working at every stage. A product without a journey shows just Dashboard and Build, and its Dashboard offers a "Start product journey" button for the day you want one. Getting started walks through both doors; Products and the Dashboard covers what happens after.

Where to begin

Motriz ships as a signed and notarized desktop app. Create a free account in Motriz Cloud — it includes one product journey and a managed First Decision, so you can reach an evidence-backed call on one product question before configuring anything. Then choose Download desktop from the signed-in header. You connect the AI provider accounts you already use under Settings → Providers; Privacy and safety lists what the desktop app stores locally and what touches the network.

Getting started takes you from download to your first product and your first run — whichever door you come in through.
